The Punong Barangay Ralph O. Hizon, Davao City. The workshop was attended by representatives from the 16 regional offices of DENR-EMB plus the officers and staff from the Central Office. The City Councilor Marissa S. Abella was also present to boost the morale of her better-half and being the former Punong Barangay who started the leg work in Solid Waste Management. The highlights of the presentation focus on the strategies and approach applied including the programs implemented which made our barangay stand out from the rest and emerged as grand winner for the “One Million Peso Barangay Solid Waste Management (BESWM) Challenge held last March 2013. The Marine Fish Sanctuary established in this barangay was also one of the highlights presented to the participants including the implementation of organic farming particularly growing lettuce and coming out with an issuance of Executive Order requiring all barangay officials and functionaries to plant as least 3 pots or containers of any kind of vegetables. The Punong Barangay also presented its accomplishments in “Adopt-an-Estero/Water/Body Program” for the year 2012 – 2014 since it was first launched last last June 17, 2011, the Barangay Hizon Sr., being one of the adoptors. The Punong barangay was given only 15 minutes for the presentation but because of his enthusiasms to share the success in the Solid Waste Management, he went as far as 30 minutes of time, but it’s all worth it because he did it pretty well. The DENR-EMB presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Punong Barangay Ralph O. Abella at the end of his presentation for sharing his time as guest speaker and for a job well done. Sec Red | |
