The annual observance of the Elderly Week and the celebration of Elderly Day was institutionalized in this barangay through the passing of Barangay Resolution No. 507 declaring the 3^rd  Saturday of September as Elderly Day.  

This year’s commemoration kicked-off with the Visayan theme “Ang Edaran Sumbanan ug Giya Sa Kabataan” to motivate the youth that being at the senior age, the contribution they can bring into for the welfare of society still continue to flourish.         

The chairman of the Committee on Health & Social Services, Kagawad Erico R. Talili fully supported by Punong Barangay Ralph O. Abella and the whole members of the barangay council planned for a series of activities that could surpass last year’s success.

One of the activities was the attendance of some Senior Citizens to the 20^th Regular Session to witness how the barangay council proceedings was being deliberated based on parliamentary procedures.

The culmination day happened on September 20, 2014 starting from 4:00 p.m. at Nova Tierra Basketball Covered Court which was highlighted by Socio-Cultural Competition among all the senior citizen chapters within barangay Hizon.

The first group to present their number came from the Senior Citizen Group of Lizada Village Chapter.

Followed by Nova Tierra Village chapter with a medley presentation starting with an introduction number of “Zorro look-alike” men with their black mask on. The audience was very entertained especially when they executed the “twerking” thing.       

The Senior Citizens from Sto. Domingo I Chapter could not be left behind as they prove their mettle during a folk dance presentation.

Representatives from Fortune Executive Homes doing a choral presentation were also awesome with their colorful traditional “baro at saya.”

The panel of Judges from left to right were as follows; Richelle Cuasing, Claudette Ivy Duero and Glady’s Rodriguez.  In the final decisions of the judges, Nova Tierra Village came on top with an average score of 98%, followed by Pampanga Exec. Homes garnering 94.67% and Sto. Domingo I with 91.33%. The two other contestants received consolation prizes.

Intersperse in between the activity was the drawing of raffle tickets, the proceeds is intended for the projects of the senior citizen.

The Hiyas Ng Hizon Elderly 2014 was also crowned during the day by Punong Barangay Ralph O. Abella with the former Hiyas ng Hizon turning over the crown to the reigning Hiyas.

All the participants were treated to a snacks as the activity is set to last until 10:00 p.m.

To entertain the crowd, an acoustic band was also invited to play the hit songs of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Sec RED
