KADAYAWAN 2013!

Once again, the festive week-long celebration of the Annual "Kadayawan sa Dabaw” is here with us to stay and came to end with a big bang last August 18, 2013 via a floral parade.

In order to manifest its full support to the Administration of Mayor Rudy Duterte, the Brgy. Council of Hizon decided to join the parade and participated in the competition of floats under the small category.

The entry float showcased the recently established Marine Fish Sanctuary by virtue of Brgy. Ordinance No. 6, Series of 2013 enacted January 10, 2013. The theme also depicted a small patrol boat use in apprehending violators who ravage our natural resources. Some of these are dynamite fishers, cyanide poisoning to stun the fish and other illegal fishing methods like muro-ami, bubo, paanod, hulbot-hulbot, etc.The creative idea was concocted by two school teachers of V. Hizon Elem. School namely; Mr. Rodelito G.Villanueva and Ms. Nenita T. De Arce.

The preparation was so short because it was already on the second week of August when Punong Barangay Ralph O. Abella divulged his plan to the Council Members. Nevertheless, the enthusiasms of the Barangay Officials and Functionaries and the well-tested teamwork had proven that this barangay can make things happen even at an instant short notice - we can still emerge as CHAMPION!

Earlier, when the idea of establishing a fish sanctuary was still in the drawing board, this barangay had already showcased to the public its modest and noble intention by fielding a non-competing float during the Araw Ng Dabaw Parade last March 16, 2012.

As early as 5:00 a.m. the members of the barangay contingent were "as busy as the ants” when they started heading towards the convergent point at Roxas Boulevard beside Ateneo de Davao University.

It was a snail-paced walk downtown but it’s all worth the effort because we were able to reverberate the message across, that in our own little way we are trying to save and protect a fish sanctuary within our turf. Save also for those people, locals & tourists alike, who took turns taking pictures beside our float while we made those constant number of stops.

To all those who heeded the call of our Punong Barangay to attend the parade & to those who give their untiring and unselfish efforts in making such a wonderful float…Kudos to all of You Guys…Mabuhay and Barangay Hizon! Sec Red
