ELDERLYMPICS 2012!

The week-long celebration of the Elderly was recently conducted last September 10 – 15, 2012 dubbed as Elderlympics 2012. This is to honor and give importance to the Senior Citizen who believed among themselves that they are the most neglected segment of our society.

A series of activities were lined-up by Kagawad Erico R. Talili, the Chairman of the Committee on Health & Social Services, fully supported by Punong Barangay Ralph O. Abella together with the rest of the Council Members.

The first activity was the role-playing of the Senior Citizen starting September 10, 2012 to act as the Barangay Officials. Mr. Alfredo Balagtas acted the role of the Punong Barangay and the following acted as Kagawads; Ms. Glenda Fernandez, Mr. Leodegario dela Cruz, Mrs. Evelyn Capisos, Mrs. Fe Quimbo, Mrs. Leticia Narisma, Mrs. Abelita Yee, Mr. Martin Aban and Mr. Victoriano Balagulan as the SK Chairman.

During the 1st day of the role playing, the designated Punong Barangay and a Kagawad posing as Officer of the day were on duty together with the real ones. The "copy cats” were very excited and enthusiastic as they learned the grasp and handle of the rope on public governance at the barangay hall on the day to day basis. What is even more excited is on the 3rd day when they were given authority by the Council to hold the discussion on the issues being prepared in the calendar of business and pass resolutions.

The culmination day last September 15, 2012 started with a medical mission in the morning, intended for the elderly and sponsored by Nikkei Jin Kai by sending its medical staffs and giving out medicines. There were also personal grooming services extended from the Office of Congress Representative Mylene J. Garcia by providing free haircuts.

In the afternoon, were a series of competition starting with Choral Singing, Folk Dancing and the Selection of Hiyas ng Barangay Hizon Elderly 2012, all participated by 5 subdivisions.

For the choral competition, Nova Tierra Village bagged the title as champion, Lizada Village as 1st Runner-up, Fortune Executive Homes as 2nd Runner-up, Sto. Domingo I as 3rd Runner-up and Pampanga Executive Homes as 4th Runner-up.

While on the Folk Dance Competition, Nova Tierra Village again emerged as the Champion, Fortune Executive Homes as 1st Runner-up, Lizada Village as 2nd Runner-up and Sto. Domingo I and Pampanga Exec. Homes tied on the 3rd Runner-up slot.

Going to the Selection of the Hiyas ng Barangay Hizon Elderly 2012, the candidates went through the process of showcasing their talents, undergoing the rigidity of question and answer portion, being rated for their beauty and grace and how they project themselves on stage.

The judges had a hard time filling up the numbers in their score sheets because all the five contestants deserves to be title of "Hiyas" but there could be only one winner and a decision has to be made. Eventually, Mrs. Luz del Mundo of Lizada Village was proclaimed as the Hiyas ng Barangay Elderly 2012, while the 1st Runner-up was awarded to Ms. Sally Hernandez of Nova Tierra, Mrs. Lourdes Arfapo of Fortune Exec. Homes bagged the 2nd Runner-up award, Mrs. Luz Manlubatan of Pampanga Exec. Homes was awarded as the 3rd Runner-up and 4th Runner –up goes to Mrs. Glenda Fernandez of Sto. Domingo I.

It was a day of fun for our sweet 60's and was even made colorful by the attendance of Ms. Judy Aparece of DILG, Ms. Necitas Dalope of CSSDO, Hon. City Councilors Marissa S. Abella and Hon.  April Marie Dayap. It was learned also from Punong Barangay Ralph O. Abella that the same event will be held next year at Abreeza Mall. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and wish for the best. Sec Red
